Life of Pi

Or rather, The Most Stunning, Fabulous, Extraordinary, Exotic, Imaginative, Mind-Blowing Life of Pi. This... This... I hesitate to call it a movie, for it was much more than that. This depiction, this idea, this wonder couldn't not possibly be more awe-inspiring. My meager words do not even come close to serving it justice. I will not give too much away, as the only way to truly live the experience is to watch it for yourself.

The story-line, I must say, is not usually something I would prefer to watch. When you strip it down to the basics, the story is that of a young man stranded at sea for 227 days. Not my cup of tea. But when you add in the tiger, the man's past, and the stunning visual effects, one is left wishing they could see more.

How many ways can the director show a shot of a man in a lifeboat? Countless. Countless. It never got old. I wanted young Pi to remain at sea forever, simply so I can watch the sea beneath him.

Ah, perhaps this movie simply scored major points with my fascination with marine life. The breaching whale, the hoards of flying fish, the squid attacking the sperm whale, and the fearsome unknown creatures lurking in the depths. The rolls of the ocean in the storm both fascinate and frighten me at the same time. So much of the story hit right in the heart, even though the actual story was simply minimal.

If only I could watch this over and over again! The beauty ended, the credits scrolled, and I sat, frozen to my chair, my family and boyfriend attempting to communicate with me. As my eyes longed for more, my brain restarted itself, finally bringing reality back.

So, I sit here now, writing this to you, attempting to make you understand Pi's wonder. This is pitiful compared to what the movie is, but it is the best I can do. Please, enjoy it for yourself!
